Last week we attended the amazing North East Charity Awards at Newcastle’s Boiler Shop, a fabulous venue for a superb event. Impeller had been shortlisted for the Outstanding Social Enterprise Award, a great honour to be recognised alongside two other great local social enterprises, the Alnwick Garden Trust and Everyday part of Age UK North Tyneside. The ceremony was compèred by Alfie Joey and Anna Foster from BBC Radio Newcastle with the entertainment provided by friends of ours, the Blue Light Choir made up of Fire, Police, NHS and Ambulance Services employees – they were fantastic.
Impeller were humbled to be at the event and to be recognized at such an early stage in the development of the company; the Alnwick Garden were very worthy winners of the award and we send them our congratulations. On the night we were sitting with the finalists from Darlington Building Society and North East Autism, both fantastic organisations. Darlington Building Society deservedly took home Outstanding Charity Support by Small to Medium Companies for their work in the community donating 187 volunteer days, supporting 289 organisations and helping to raise over £167,000. We also met John Phillipson, CEO of North East Autism Society, who was recognized as Charity Leader of the Year for his outstanding contribution.
